This Week in Grade One

Monday October 7th     Miss Garner is back for 2 weeks.

Wednesday October 9th    Picture Day

Thursday October 10th  Library

Friday October 11th    PD day  No School for Students


     We are doing very well at building our reading stamina.  Last week we accomplished Read to Self for 6 minutes.  Book Bags for home reading will be coming home on Monday. 


     This week we will begin an exciting new unit of study called Writing for Many Purposes.  During this unit, children will explore many different real-life reasons to write. 

     We would like to invite you, as families, to think about the writing that you do daily.  We would like each family to send in a piece of writing from home.  Please not that you may wish to send copies of these samples.   Examples of writing samples may include the following:

• lists
• recipes
• notes
• cards
• letters
• journal entries
• e-mails
• invitations
• postcards
• instructions
• maps

     We encourage you to be creative in your ideas!  Anything that has to do with writing will help expand our unit and model for children the many real-life reasons for writing!  Thanks very much for your support.
