January 19 to January 23

We are busy busy busy here in Mrs. Wegner's class.  We continue to work on our Animals in Winter writing projects and our study of informational texts.

In Mathematics we are working on addition.

The Grade 1 students  are solving problems involving the addition and of single-digit whole numbers,
using a variety of mental strategies (e.g.,one more than, one less than, counting on,counting back, doubles).

So far we have discovered that;

0+ any number = that number

0+1=1

0+2=2

0+3=3

0+100=100

0+200=200

and......

1+ any number= the next number

1+1=2
1+2=3
1+3=4
1+100=101
1+199=200

This week we are working on the doubles.

The Grade 2 students will be working on;

-solving problems involving the addition of whole numbers to 18, using a variety of mental strategies (e.g.,“To add 6 + 8, I could double 6 and get 12 and then add 2 more to get 14.”).

- solving problems involving the addition of two-digit numbers, with and without regrouping, using concrete materials (e.g., base ten materials, counters).
