Friday is Library Book Exchange and Spelling Test for Grade 2 Students
We continue with our study of informational texts and we will be writing reports about animals and how they survive winter.
Grade One Expectations include:
- investigate and compare the basic needs of humans and other living things, including the need for air, water, food, warmth, and space, using a variety of methods and resources.
- investigate and compare physical characteristics of a variety of animals, including humans.
- use appropriate science vocabulary including hibernate, adapt, migrate, survive, temperature in oral and written communication.
- describe changes in the appearance or behaviour of living things that are adaptations of seasonal changes
- describe how humans prepare for and/or respond to seasonal changes.
Grade Two Expectations include:
- investigate the ways in which a variety of animals adapt to their environment and/or to changes in their environment.
- use appropriate science vocabulary including migration, adaptation, hibernation, life cycle, classification in oral and written communications.
- describe an adaptation as a characteristic body part, shape, or behaviour that helps an animal survive in its environment.
- identify and describe major physical characteristics of different types of animals (reptiles, mammals, insects, birds, fish).
- identify the 3 states of water in the environment and give examples of each (solid is visible as ice, snow, frost, hail, sleet)
You Can Support Your Child's Learning at Home By:
- observing the changes in weather and the responses of animals outdoors
- reading books about animals
- use internet sources to investigate characteristics of animals and how they adapt to winter conditions
- draw pictures and make models of observations and things learned
