Remembrance Day, Monday November 11, 2012
On Remembrance Day we went to the gym for an assembly.
Mr. Doner played The Last Post on his trumpet.
Each class brought their wreath forward.
We decorated our door. Here we are after the assembly.
This is our wreath. We each made one poppy to go on it.
A Poppy is to Remember
This is our Remembrance Day art. We made these poppies by ripping pieces of tissue paper and glueing them down using a paint brush and watered down glue.
Patterning With Ms. Garner
Ms. Garner set up 5 centers (stamps, stickers, pattern blocks, makers, colouring). We made up our own pattern and then showed our pattern 5 different ways.
Look at the results!
At home, help your child recognize and extend repeating patterns. In a repeating pattern, the pattern core is the part that repeats over and over.
Lay a row of nice spoons so that each handle points up or down in a pattern with a core of up, up, down (up, up, down; up, up down; up, up, down). Ask your child to to describe the pattern with letters (AAB, AAB, AAB) and then extend the pattern.
Make this task more challenging:
- Make the pattern core longer (up, up, down, up).
- Change one of the elements ( up, up, down, sideways)
